Kendrapara: The Jamboo Marine police on Tuesday arrested seven persons on charges of stripping a minor girl naked, molesting her and clicking her nude photographs in Pitapata village of the district.
The arrested persons have been identified as Uttam Biswas (29), Sambhu Bijuli (22), Prasanjit Gain (22), Pramod Singh (32), Dipuna Rout (27), Pranab Bala (19) and Arjit Mohanty (22) of the same village.
According to Kendrapara SP Dayanidhi Gochhait, a 17-years-old Madhuri Hasina (name changed) had gone to Manasa Temple on Sunday evening along with her cousin brother. However, seven youths of the village who were in an inebriated state at some distance, went to the girl and assaulted her cousin brother.
Later, the youths forcibly stripped and outraged her modesty. They also snatched a gold chain from her. Besides, they forcibly captured the naked photos of the minor girl and threatened to make them viral, the SP added.
The victim, after returning home, narrated the horrific experience to her parents who filed an FIR with the local police on Monday.
Acting on the FIR, Jamboo Marine police registered a case under Section 341, 323, 294, 379, 354(b), 354(c), 34 of IPC and Section 10, 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Investigating into the matter, the cops arrested the accused yesterday and produced them before the SDJM Court which sent them to judicial custody, informed Kendrapara SDPO Rajib Lochan Panda.
The incident has raised question over the law and order situation, police patrolling, especially crimes against women, in the district as two college students were arrested three days ago in the district for circulating the sex video of a college student, making it viral on social media. Derabish police had arrested the college students including the prime accused in this incident.
