Minor girl’s marriage stopped in Kandhamal
Phulbani: Stopping yet another child marriage from occurring in the state, Childline members rescued a 15-year-old girl of Guchhapada village in Kandhamal district yesterday, ahead of her marriage.
As per the report, the marriage of the minor was taking place with a man from Phiringia area last evening when the Phulbani Childlne officials rushed to the spot after getting a tip-off. After holding talks with the family members of the minor, the officials managed to convince them to cancel the marriage.
While no arrest was made in the case during the raid, the girl was handed over to her family after rescue from the marriage venue.
Notably, a few days back Childline officials in Keonjhar had foiled the attempt of marrying off an 11-year-old girl in Anandpur area. However, the groom who was also a minor had managed to give the officials a slip during the raid.
