Balasore: In a tragic incident, two minor girls died after drowning in a pond at Kahalia village in Nilagiri in the district on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Banashree Behera (class X student) and Jyotirekha Moharana (class VII student).
According to reports, both of them went to the nearby pond to bathe while returning from tuition. Unfortunately, one of the girls slipped into the deep water and was unable to swim back. The other girl went to rescue her. However, both of them drowned.
Some locals who found their bodies floating in the pond rescued and rushed them to Nilagiri hospital, where doctors pronounced them brought dead.
While police have started an investigation into the matter, a pall of gloom descended on the village.
