Cuttack: A minor girl was killed after being bitten by a venomous snake at Brahmapura village under Banki block in Cuttack district last night.
The deceased minor has been identified as Soni Behera, daughter of Prakash Behera and a Class 3 student of the same village.
As per the family members of the deceased, she went to slip in her room after dinner last night and started screaming a few minutes later after the reptile which has sneaked into the house before, bit her.
The victim was immediately rushed to Banki Sub Divisional Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
With the onset of monsoon the incidents of snakebites have registered an increase in the state. In a similar incident in Hatichua village under Sadar Police Station area in Keonjhar district on July 11, a six-year-old girl had died of snakebite in similar circumstances. Later on July 22, another four-year-old girl was also killed after being bitten by a snake in Manata village under Ghatagaon Police limits.
