Minor Boy Rescued After Falling Into Manhole in Odisha Discharged From Hospital

Cuttack: A five-year-old boy who slipped into an open manhole in Cuttack district on Saturday was today discharged from SCB Medical College and Hospital. The victim Dibyanshu Behera was rescued after being washed away around 100 metres by the drain water.

The mother of the victim, however, blamed the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) for the mishap and demanded closure of all open manholes in the city.

“We had been to a private hospital at Bajrakabati and asked my son to wait on the other side of the road. While he was walking to the other side of the road he suddenly fell into the manhole. It was raining at that time and he could not notice the manhole in the dark,” said Sushmita Behera.

Three youths later came forward to help the victim and managed to rescue him from the drain. The victim of the mother immediately rushed him to the SCB Medical College and Hospital.

CMC officials, on the other hand, said that they have directed the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to close all the open manholes at the earliest possible.
