Minor boy dies, others injured as abandoned building collapses in Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: A minor boy, who was rescued from debris after an abandoned building in Koraput district collapsed yesterday, died while undergoing treatment here on Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Rashel Khora, succumbed to his injuries at Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College and Hospital in the wee hours. He was among three family members trapped under the debris.

According to reports, five persons were staying in an abandoned building at Bariniput village under Jeypore Sadar police limits in the district. They got trapped as the building, which was declared as unsafe by the district administration, collapsed yesterday.

On being informed, the ODRAF, Fire Brigade and local police reached the spot and began the rescue operation immediately.

While two of the family members were rescued immediately, it took around five hours to rescue others. The boy was rescued at midnight as he was trapped under the massive wreckage.

All the victims were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jeypore, but two of the family members were shifted to SLN Hospital as their condition was critical. The boy died while undergoing treatment.
