Migratory bird census begins in Odisha’s Bhitarkanika National Park

Kendrapara: The annual census of migratory birds in the world famous Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara has begun from today, informed Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Jagyandatta Pati.

Reportedly, 16 teams have been deployed in the annual census of migratory birds in five ranges of the national park.

The bird counting has begun from 6 am and will continue till 1 pm, added reports.

This year the Forest department has included students from different colleges to carry out the census of migratory birds who will assist the deployed teams.

The Forest officials are likely to submit the tally on January 13.

The census will be carried out in Satabhaya, Raitapatia, Chataka, Praharajpur, Bagagahana and Barunei Muhana, further said reports.

The birds of different species had started arriving in their annual stay from Siberia, northern Asia and some central European country from November 2021.

It is to be noted that the National Park was closed for tourists/visitors for 10 days from January 2 for the census of crocodiles in waterbodies inside and outside the wildlife sanctuary.
