Micro containment returns to this city in Odisha following detection of Omicron cases

Puri: Amidst the rising cases of Omicron across Odisha, the Puri district administration has declared a micro containment zone in the city following the detection of the new variant.

Reportedly, Hotel Sona International and its vicinity in Ward No.11 has been declared as a micro-containment zone after 2 staff of a hotel near Puri sea beach and a tourist has been detected with positive for Covid Omicron variant.

District Magistrate and Collector of Puri Samarth Verma has stated the following to contain the spread of the virus and in the larger public interest:

  • No public will be allowed to move into the micro containment zone and inhabitants in the zone will not be allowed to move out.
  • All the inhabitants within the Micro Containment Zone shall strictly remain in the home. All the shopping establishments of whatsoever nature should be closed immediately. The supply of essential commodities and medical requirements will be ensured through various Teams under the direction of the Executive Officer, Puri Municipality.
  • All the Govt. and private Institutions located within the boundary of the containment zone are hereby closed forthwith.
  • The shutdown period has been effective from 7 am of January 3 till further orders.

It is noteworthy that on January 2, the Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar informed that Odisha reported 23 Omicron cases taking the tally to 37.
