Nayagarh: Tension ran high in Odagaon Bazaar area in the district today morning after a mentally ill man attacked people and cudgeled two to death and left three others injured in stone pelting.
The deceased duo has been identified as Trilochan Sethi and Madani Pradhan. They worked as night guards in the village.
As per the report, the mentally sick man attacked a group of people in the market this morning with a cudgel without any reason and then started pelting stones at them. Till a police team under Odagaon IIC reached the spot the night guard duo had already died due to excess bleeding after being hit by stones hurled by the attacker.
Later, as the IIC tried to prevent the accused, he didn’t even spare the police and targeted them with stones leaving at least three cops injured.
The injured cops were immediately rushed to a nearby and two of them including a lady Constable were shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack due to serious condition.
Sharankul SDPO reached the spot along with a police team and nabbed the culprit.
Angry locals have staged a road blockade in the area alleging police negligence for the incident. They have claimed that while the accused was moving in the Odagaon bazaar last night openly by holding a cudgel police didn’t take timely step due to which the incident took place.
