Bhubaneswar: Visit of the medicinal plant garden Ekamra Van was the centre of attraction for 27 participants of 126th Ekamra Walks.

Ekamra Walks is an initiative of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in association with the Department of Tourism and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) to reinvent the way the locals and tourists reconnect with the Temple City on every Sunday.

Many of the walkers today were architecture students, interior design students and many were invited by their friends who had attended the walk earlier.

The walk culminated at the beautiful Ekamra Van on the western bank of Bindusagar lake where the walkers got an insight into the medicinal benefits of various trees and why there is an urgent need to save and protect our invaluable natural heritage.

Explaining the concept of Ekamra Van forest officials and curator of the beautiful garden said that despite our entire traditional link with the medicinal plants most people fail to recognise and name the plants.

“But surprisingly foreign tourists are able to recognise many species and they are also growing the plants. Italian tourists as visitors of the Ekamra Walks could easily identify Arjuna tree. Regular visit to the garden will definitely create awareness on medicinal plants,” said the curator of the garden.
