Measles-Rubella Vaccination Drive Begins In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In an effort to reduce illness and deaths due to Measles and Rubella, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday flagged of the statewide Measles-Rubella vaccination drive from here in the presence of Health Minster Pratap Jena.

The drive will cover children between the ages of nine months and 15 years.

Speaking on the occasion, Jena said, “As many as one crore and thirteen lakh children will be vaccinated in this Measles-Rubella vaccination programme across the state.”

The State Health Department has set up vaccination camps in government and private schools, public health centres, CHCs and Anganwadis. The first phase vaccination programme will continue till March 26, 2018.

Measles is a viral infection that can be fatal, while congenital Rubella syndrome is responsible for irreversible birth defects.
