Matric Exam: Girl student commits suicide after failing to do well in exam in Odisha

Angul: In a shocking incident, a girl student committed suicide allegedly after failing to do well in the annual Matric exam at Sikhyakpada under the Angul Town police limits on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Rashmirekha Panda.

Panda ended her life by hanging herself with a chunri (a long multi-purpose scarf) from a ceiling fan.

According to sources, Rashmirekha, a student of Angul Girls’ High School, was writing her tenth board exam at Angul Town High School. However, she took the extreme step after failing to do well in the examination as per her expectations. She took the drastic step just a day before completing her annual HSC exam.

On being informed by Pipin Bihari Panda, father of the deceased minor girl, the Town Police arrived on the spot and started an investigation into the matter.

Her body has been sent to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem.

A pall of gloom descended on the area following the death of the student.

The annual Matric exam which had began on February 23 is scheduled to conclude tomorrow with the Social Sciences paper.
