Balasore: At least 20 houses of 12 families were gutted and property worth around Rs 15 lakh was lost in a massive fire wthat broke out in Bishnupur village under Khaira Block in the district last night.
The sparks erupted in one Mayadhar Sahu’s home in the village in the wee hours of night while all were asleep. After Sahu came to know about the blaze and raised an alarm, his family members came out of the house. Later, the villagers tried to douse the flames which took shape of a massive fire and went on engulfing other houses in the locality.
Fire tenders from Ada and Agarpada Fire Brigade offices reached the village getting intimation and doused the fire after a Herculean effort which lasted for four hours. However, till then all the belongings of at least 12 families had been completely destroyed.
While the exact cause of the fire is being probed by the fire officials, the locals have demanded suitable compensation to the affected families who have been rendered homeless after the mishap.
