Mass crow, chicken deaths trigger ‘Bird Flu’ scare in Sundergarh

Sundergarh: En masse death of crows and chicken in past few days have triggered panic among locals in Koida block of Sundergarh, who suspect it to be caused by ‘Bird Flu’.

As per the report, a large number of crows were seen dead in New Garden Colony and the nearby places of Koida Police Station. The chicken deaths were mostly reported from Dhubalabeda area and New Garden Colony.

Taking a prompt action post the incidents, a two-member team of Veterinary Hospital comprising of Dr Nilamadhab Sahu and Livestock Inspector Rakesh Kumar Pradhan made a visit to the affected areas and examined the carcasses of dead crows and chickens.

The team also paid a visit to the old chicken centre located inside Koida Market and collected blood samples of chicken to send them for test to Cuttack.

“The blood samples of the chicken and crow have been sent for tab test and we are waiting for the report. In case, any of the samples tests positive for ‘Bird Flu’ culling of affected chicken will be carried out in the area,” said the Veterinary officer.
