Married woman raped in Odisha, Two detained

Balasore: Acting on the allegation of a woman, Remuna police in Balasore district detained two persons this morning for allegedly raping a woman during the Maha Shivaratri celebration yesterday.

Speaking about the incident, the woman, a native of Kathasangada, said, “I had gone to Dalagahira to attend the Jagara Jatra last night along with my mother-in-law. However, two youths namely Ashok Das and Manoj Giri covered my mouth with a towel and took me when I had gone to a lonely place near the temple to attend the nature’s call. Then, Ashok forcibly raped me despite my repeated denial.”

Later, the woman narrated her ordeal to her family members following which they filed a police complaint with the Remuna Police.

Briefing the newsmen about the incident, Ranjit Kumar Sahoo, IIC of the police station, said, “A married woman had gone to attend the Jagara Jatra last night. However, when she went to attend nature’s call at around 3 am, two youths namely Ashok Das and Manoj Giri took her to a lonely place where Ashok raped her. We have detained the accused persons for interrogation.”

“Further investigation into the matter is on,” he added.
