Married man rapes girl in Odisha’s Puri, absconded

Puri: A married man allegedly raped a girl after tying her inside his house in Delanga area of Odisha’s Puri district last night.

The accused, identified as Purna Chandra Das, is a married person and also a distant relative of the victim, sources said.

According to reports, the victim had gone to the outskirts of the village to collect her father’s pension when the accused asked her to come inside his house and help him to find the PIN number of his new ATM that he had received recently.

Soon after the girl entered the house, the accused locked the house from inside and then tied her hand, stuffed her mouth with clothes, thrashed her and sexually assaulted her. After committing the crime, the accused locked the house leaving the victim inside.

However, the girl found a mobile phone inside the house and telephoned her mother and narrated the incident. Subsequently, her mother alerted the locals and informed the police in this regard.

On being informed, Satyabadi police reached the spot and rescued the victim, while the accused absconded.

The girl’s mother said that her daughter was to get married on February 3, 2020. Her family members have demanded capital punishment for the accused.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Satyabadi police station in this connection.

“The girl was sent to the District Headquarter Hospital in Puri for medical examination,” a police official said adding that further investigation is on and a man haunt has been launched to nab the accused.
