Bhawanipatna: Maoists today released all four villagers including a ‘Gram Rakhi’ (village guard) whom they had abducted from Lakhpadar village of Trilochanpur panchayat under Bijepur police limits in Kalahandi district on Friday.

The abductees identified as Khetra Harijan (village guard), Babula Nayak, Raju Nayak and Bisikeshan Harijan reached their homes in the morning. They were seen with injury marks pointing at the inhumane torture in the hands of red rebels.

Heavily armed members of outlawed CPI (Maoist) group had reached the village on Friday and took the four with them after barging into their houses. While police failed to reach the village even after two days of the incident, the kin of the abductees refrained from naming Maoists in the incident later, out of fear.

While, it is still not clear why the Maoists had abducted these villagers, it is suspected that they might have taken the step suspecting them to be police informers.

Lack of proper policing and almost no combing operation has turned Lakhpadar village into a Maoist ‘safe haven’, claimed some villagers.
