Maoists kill man by slitting throat in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: Unleashing Red fear yet again in the state, members of outlawed CPI (Maoist) group killed a villager by slitting his throat in Haladi panchayat in Nabarangpur district last night on suspicion of being a police informer.

The deceased has been identified as Tunu Markam (41), a resident of Bhenas village under Raighar block.

As per the report, a group of heavily armed Maoists barged into Markam’s house in the village at around 8 pm and reprimanded him for informing police on their movement in the area. Later, the group comprising of three men and an equal number of women Maoists took the victim with them to a Anganwadi Centre located nearby and killed by slitting throat with sharp weapon.

Before leaving the spot the Maoists left a number of posters, released in the name of Indragaon Area Committee of CPI (Maoist). In the posters the Red rebels claimed that Markam was active as a police informer since 2015. Despite warning to him on several occasions in the past and for the last time at a ‘praja court’ in 2018, he continued with his relationship with police, it added.

Police had not reached the spot till this report was being filed.
