Malkangiri: With the much-touted Gurupriya Bridge now officially opened for public use, the red rebels have made their last-ditch effort to instigate people against the project by organising a massive congregation here yesterday.

As per the report, the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of CPI Maoist group held a camp in Ralegada area on Andhra-Odisha border at around 2 PM on Saturday under the supervision of Maoist leader Rabana.

In a public meeting which was held at the camp which was attended by around 600 Maoist sympathisers from neighbouring panchayats vehemently opposed the setting-up of Gurupriya Bridge claiming that it would not benefit people in any manner. The bridge has rather open new avenue for mineral looters active in Odisha, the Maoists claimed.

The speakers at the meeting also condemned the October 24, 2016 police encounter which took place in Ramaguda forest in Malkangiri district and killed at least 30 Maoists.

Earlier during the congregation the attendees went round the martyrs’ pillar set up at the venue by holding posters and banners to mark the Martyrs’ Week observation and remembered their lost comrades.
