Maoists call upon people to save Niyamgiri Hills in Odisha

Rayagada: The outlawed CPI Maoist outfit on Thursday put up posters calling upon people residing around the Niyamgiri hills to oppose the governments’ conspiracy in handing over the hill to private companies, while Maoists martyr’s week is being observed across the nation from July 28 to August 3.

The posters bearing the name of Bansadhara-Ghumusar-Nagabali Division were surfaced at the wall of a Siva temple in Kalyansinghpur of the district in Odisha.

In the posters, the ultra-wing has urged the people of Rayagada and Kalahandi district residing around the Niyamgiri hills to strongly oppose the Centre, State government and the district police who have been trying to suppress the people’s movement in Niyamgiri and handover the Aluminium rich hill region to Vedanta Aluminium Ltd.

The Maoists also appealed the youths and students not to be lured by cash and mobile phones offered by police and act as police informer.

The Red Rebels have also claimed that the entire Niyamgiri region would lose its entity as the state government has floated a number of tenders to set up industrial units this region.

Meanwhile, police have seized the posters and launched search operations in Kalyansinghpur areas.
