Maoists call Malkangiri bandh on July 20 opposing Polavaram project

Malkangiri: Maoists have appealed the people to support the district-wide bandh here on July 20 in protesting against Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious Polavaram project.

Malkangiri-Koraput-Visakhapatnam Border (MKVB) divisional committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) also urged all the affected people to come forward and fight united against the construction of the dam project.

“The Polavaram Dam project will displace Dalits, Tribals, poor and marginalised people of the region benefiting the ruling class, capitalists and elite people only. To oppose this project, we have called for Malkangiri Bandh on July 20,” said Benu, Secretary of the MKVB divisional committee in a press release.

“We appeal to all the affected people to unite and observe the strict bandh on July 20,” he added claiming the project as anti-people.

On July 13, The MKVB division had put several posters at different places of Chitrakonda block in the district opposing the Polavaram project. The red rebels wanted immediate withdrawal of the project for the benefit of locals.
