Kandhamal: A maoist leader involved in many offences have surrendered before the Kandhamal SP on Sunday morning.

He was identified as Rahul Musaki alias Pintu, a resident of Talat village, under Kanta police limits of Sukma district in Chhatisgarh.

Pintu was allegedly in many LWE related incidents and was associated with BGN division in Sukma district of Chhatisgarh.

The main reason for his surrender were the developmental activities undertaken by the Odisha Government, he realised the futility of the violent path of Naxalism and thus decided to join the main stream. CM Naveen Patnaik had given a call to active Naxals and militia for surrendering and become a part of the mainstream and part of developmental initiatives. The appeal of Odisha CM coupled with good surrender and rehabilitation policy of the government  and also influenced him to give the path of violence and join the mainstream.

There has been increase of regular anti naxalite operation in interior areas of Kandhamal district and subsequent continous fear of police action also contributed to his surrender. He also realised that Maoist leaders are using innocent tribals of the region for their own indiviual/ vested interests and are misguiding the innocent tribal youth of the region for their own benefits.

Musaki was fed up with the anti-social attitude of the party and also disgusted with the unnecessary civilian killings by the party, even after the protests by the locals. He has also appealed to the Maoists cadres to give up arms and join the main stream.

Musaki will get monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation scheme of the government of Odisha. He will also get financial assitance for building house, pursuing studies and getting trained in a trade/vocation of his will.
