Malkangiri: In yet another blow to Red rebels in the State, a Maoist couple carrying Rs 20 lakh reward on their head surrendered before Andhra police in Gudem area under Visakhapatnam Rural Police Station yesterday.
The held couple has been identified as Bellam Narayan Swami alias Damodar and his wife Gangi Madi alias Pulamati.
Acting upon a tip-off on the presence of the Maoist couple in Gudem area police launched a raid and arrested them from their hideout. Damodar was suffering from fever and getting treated for the same when the arrest took place, said police.
It is learnt that Damodar and his wife were involved in more than 100 Maoist operations which include former Malkangiri collector R Vineel Krishna’s abduction and attack on Andhra Greyhound boat in Balimela reservoir in 2008 which left 38 security personnel dead.
