Maoist bandh call cripples life in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Normal life came to a standstill in Maoist infested Malkangiri district today, following a one-day bandh call given by Red rebels protesting killing of at least five cadres by police in a recent encounter.

The bandh call was given by the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist) which protested the November 5 encounter by Special Operation Group (SOG) inside a forest area near Papluru village in Kalimela area. They also protested the killing of Maoist Meena on October 12.

While the plying of government buses was completely disrupted due to the possible violence during the bandh observation, private buses also remained in service in very less numbers. That apart, shops and other business establishments in the district remained off business.
