Bhubaneswar: In an audio tape released by the red rebels and posted to Kalinga TV the Maoists have condemned the recent police encounters in Odisha’s Balangir and Kandhamal districts and appealed people to join the Martyrs’ Week observation scheduled to be held from July 28-August 3.

The audio of Bargarh-Balangir-Mahasamund Division of CPI (Maoist) group which features the voice of its Secretary Basant Kumar claimed that the people are deprived of their rights even after 70 years of Independence. He insisted that true freedom would come only by armed struggle.

Even coming down heavily upon the democratically elected government of the country at the Centre the Maoist leader alleged that development is happening for only a few capitalists like Adani, Ambani and other top corporate houses. The fruits of development are yet to reach the deprived classes.

Citing the police encounters which took place in Kandhamal and Balangir districts of the state on May 12 and 13, the Maoists through their audio tapes have announced to pay a tribute to their martyred comrade Shanka Majhi among others, during the upcoming Martyrs’ Week observation.
