Manish Anurag death case: Commissionerate Police submits 400-page chargesheet

Bhubaneswar: In a recent development in the death case of senior journalist Navin Das’s elder son Manish Anurag, Infocity police has filed a 400-page chargesheet Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court.

Reportedly, the chargesheet has been filed against the three accused Amrit Biswal of Nayapalli, Mrutyunjay Mishra of Pianpada,  and Dinesh Kumar Mohapatra of Anlapada. They have been charged under sections 37 (a) (Kidnapping or abduction for ransom), 302 (Punishment for murder), 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence), and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The autopsy report, the diatom report, and the visceral report have also been included in the chargesheet and the cops have listed 17 witnesses in the chargesheet, added reports.

Earlier on October 16, Commissionerate Police arrested Amrit Biswal, Mrutyunjay Mishra and Dinesh Kumar Mohapatra on charges of Manish’s murder and destroying the relevant evidences. While Mrutyunjay and Dinesh surrendered at Phulbani police station in Kandhamal district, Amrit was detained and later all of them were arrested.

Manish had gone along with Amrit, Mrutyunjay and Dinesh to the South City hotel in Patrapada where an argument over the bill payment took place between all of them. All the three accused attacked Manish in a fit of rage which led to his death. Thereafter, they dumped Manish’s body in the pond with an intention to destroy the evidence.

Later, Manish was found floating in Namrakani pond at Patrapada in Bhubaneswar. The Tomando police team along with Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash along with the scientific team had reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter.

The cops rushed the body to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar for post-mortem procedure. Commissionerate Police sealed the South City hotel for investigation of the case and for violating Covid norms. Later, the post mortem report revealed that he lost his life due to suffocation and no external injuries were found on his body.
