Man trampled to death by wild jumbo in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In yet another incident of human-animal conflict in the State, a wild jumbo trampled a man to death under Bangiriposhi Forest Range in Mayurbhanj district today.

The deceased has been identified as Bududa Murmu (49), a resident of Bhurudubani village.

As per the report, a herd of wild elephants had sneaked into the Bhurudubani village last night in search of food. After the villagers spotted the herd this morning they launched an effort to drive them away from the village to save crops in the farmland from getting damaged.

Bududa was a part of the villagers’ team engaged in driving away the elephants when one of them pounced on him and trampled to death.

Local Police and forest department officials have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
