Man trampled to death by wild elephant in Odisha

Balangir: A 47-year-old man has been killed after being attacked by a herd of wild elephants at Bhalupali village under Loisinga block of Balangir district on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Gopal Podha of Bhalupali village.

Reportedly, a herd of around 30 wild elephants has entered the village from a nearby forest and since last few days have been creating havoc by destroying acres of crops and lakhs of property.

Podha went to the paddy field when he fell in elephant’s trap and could not escape from the spot. As a result, he died on the spot.

Two others have also sustained minor injuries after being attacked by the herd of wild elephants, added reports.

On getting the information, Loisinga police and forest officials arrived on the spot to initiate the investigation. Meanwhile, the officials of Forest Department have been chasing away the elephants.

The injured were taken to hospital for immediate medical treatment.
