Man trampled to death by wild elephant in Angul

Angul: In yet another incident of human-animal conflict in the state, a man was trampled to death by a wild elephant last night.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Sahoo.

As per the report, Ramesh who left his home last afternoon to graze a herd of goats at a nearby pasture didn’t return till late in the night. Later, a frantic search by the victim’s family members and villagers to trace him last went in vein.

Ramesh’s body was found in Nuakheta forest with grievous injury on the head caused by elephant attack this morning. Pug marks of the elephant were also found by the side of the body.

Bantala Police and forest department officials reached the spot to send the body for autopsy.

Compensation under existing government policy will be provided to the next of kin of the deceased, informed a forest department source.
