Man trampled to death by jumbo in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In yet another case of human-animal conflict in the State, an elderly man was trampled to death by a wild animal in Dankarbila village under Rasagovindpur Forest Division in Mayurbhanj district today.

The deceased has been identified as Haria Soren of the same locality.

Haria had gone out of his home early in the morning in some work when the jumbo attack took place. A tusker which had been sneaked into the village after being separated from a herd of 12 Jharkhand elephants last night pounced on him and trampled to death on the spot.

Forest officials rushed to the spot after getting an information on the incident and sent the body for autopsy.

The victim’s family will be compensated as per the existing government policy, informed a forest department source.
