Man tied to running truck for stealing mobile phone in Odisha: One arrested

Jagatsinghpur: Taking a serious note of the man tied to a running truck for stealing a mobile phone case, the Paradeep Lock Police in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur has reportedly arrested a person for his involvement in the incident.

Based on the complaint lodged by victim Gajendra Swain of Tikarpanga under Marshaghai police limits in Kendrapara district, the Paradeep Lock Police registered a case under Sections 342, 323, 294, 307, 506 and 34 of IPC and arrested one Pravakar Nayak of Betanda under Dharmasala police limits of Jajpur district. He has been forwarded to court.

Further investigation is underway to nab other accused persons involved in the incident.

It is to be noted here that Gajendra Swain had allegedly stolen a mobile phone from a truck and escaped from the spot on May 24. Later, other truck drivers caught him and tied him to the front portion of the truck after garlanding him with footwear. They drove the vehicle on a bridge over the Mahanadi river at Bhutamundai under Paradip police limits of the district.

Video of the incident was captured by an unidentified person. The clip went viral after it was shared on the social media platforms following which the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) took the suo motu cognizance of the case and directed the Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police (SP) to file a probe report within 15 days.
