Man tied to bike, dragged 2 km for abusing woman on phone

mob justiceBrahmagiri: In a blatant show of ‘vigilante justice’ in Brahamagiri area of Gop block in Puri district, a middle-aged man was today tied to the back of a motorcycle and dragged for a distance of 2 kilometres before being handed over to the police for abusing a woman over phone .

The accused, a father of two, has been identified as Ramesh Bhoi of Dharmakirti village.

Reports say a group of men from Dharmakirti village reached Gop Square near Brahamagiri market this morning and started reprimanding Ramesh for verbally abusing and harassing a woman of the village over phone. Without paying heed to his explanations, one of the youths tied him to the back of a bike with an iron chain and drove till the Brahmagiri Police Station on Puri-Satapada NH. The accused had to run a distance of roughly 2 kilometers through Brahamagiri market to reach the police station.

One of the youths, who was part of the vigilante group, justified the public humiliation of the man on the grounds that he had been making abusive phone calls to a woman member of his family since a week.

Cops freed Ramesh upon reaching the police station and detained him along with the youth who was driving the vehicle for meting out such inhuman torture to him.

Police has lodged a case in the incident and started investigation.
