Balangir: In a gory incident a man set his 75-year-old bed-ridden mother on fire following a family feud in Radabahal village under Belapada police limits in Balangir district today.
The accused has been identified as Santosh Kharsel of the same locality.
As per the report, a verbal duel erupted between Santosh and his father Rishi Kharsel in the wee hours today over certain issue. As the accused started attacking his father with a cudgel over the argument, his mother Ashamati Kharsel objected the act.
Later, as Rishi went out of his home to call villagers to settle the dispute, Santosh poured kerosene on Ashamati and set her to fire. She was charred to death on the spot.
Belapada Police later rushed to the spot after getting intimation and seized the body for autopsy.
“We have apprehended the accused after carrying out an investigation into the case and he will be forwarded to court soon,” said Belapada Police Station IIC Sachin Bariha.
