Kandhamal: A man was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment on Tuesday by a special POCSO Court in Phulbani for raping a minor girl on two different occasions.
The court pronounced the verdict after examining medical reports, police records and the statements of several eye witnesses as well as the minor victim.
The convict has been identified as Sribastha Diggal of Manikeswari village under Raikia police limits of Kandhamal district.
According to reports, Diggal had kidnapped a school girl and later raped her in November 2013. After committing the crime, he fled village only to rape the girl again in 2014 when she was en route to her aunt’s place at Gardingia in Kandhamal.
Following the incident, the girl’s father had lodged a complaint at the Raikia police station on November 18, 2014, after which the rapist was nabbed by the Police.
