Man Puts Cow Up For Sale Online, Loses Rs 1 Lakh In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Putting up an advertisement to sell a cow online turned to be a nightmare for a man in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar as he lost Rs 1 lakh after falling prey to online fraud.

One Debasis Sahoo of Bhubaneswar had reportedly put up an advertisement on Krishify (Kisan app) on March 11, 2021 to sell a cow online. He got a call from an unknown person who called by using 8342017297 phone number and identified himself as Manjit.

Sahoo alleged that he had advertised to sell his cow for Rs 20,000, which the caller said that he would pay in two different modes. Manjit said that he would transfer Rs 10,000 to Sahoo’s account and would give another Rs 10,000 in cash.

After Sahoo agreed for the modes of payment, the caller said that since he is an Indian Army Officer he cannot use the PhonePe to transfer the money. However, he informed Sahoo that he would get the money if scans a QR Cord.

With an aim to win Sahoo’s trust, Manjit allegedly sent a QR Cord on Sahoo’s mobile phone. Five rupees were credited to Sahoo’s account after he scanned the QR Cord.

Later the accused sent another QR Cord. However, when Sahoo scanned it Rs 20,000 was debited from his account. Sahoo informed the caller about the deduction of money from his account, he sent another QR Cord saying that there may be some technical error. Like this, the accused sent five QR Cords and looted Rs 1 Lakh from Sahoo’s account.

After realizing that he fell prey to cybercrime, Sahoo stopped communicating with the unknown person and filed a complaint with the cyber cell of Odisha police.

    Yes this is a very common trick used by the scammer to scam the person. But this also fact that neither cyber crime department nor the banking department is going to do anything for him. My father was also a victim of these scammer. He also logged a FIR against the same but it was of no use and by that incident he went to depression and lost his life.
