Berhampur: An elderly man, who was presumed dead, woke up before his cremation at Laukhala village under Surada police limits in Ganjam district today.

As per reports, the man identified as Simanchal Mallick had been to the forest on Friday for goat herding when he fell unconscious. The wife of Mallick requested the villagers to search him after he did not return home.

The villagers found Mallick lying unconscious in the forest this morning. The villagers presumed him dead and started preparation for his last rites instead of taking him to the hospital. The villagers have also arranged wood for his cremation.

However, Mallick woke up while being taken to the cremation ground bringing joy for his wife. The villagers, on the other hand, ran away in fear after he woke up.

Later, his family members took him to Surada Community Health Centre. He was released from the hospital after primary treatment and his condition was stated to be stable.
