Man posing as Govt official held in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A man, identified as Suryakanta Tripathy, was on Monday arrested on charges of looting mobile phones, laptops and other electronic gadgets from businessmen here in Odisha by posing impersonating as State government official.

The accused allegedly duped several electronic stores in the city to the tune of some lakhs by impersonating as Commercial Tax Officer and some time as Project Director, D.R.D.A.

On November 19, Tripathy allegedly deceived one Nikunj Khemani owner of Diva Enterprises, located at BMC Mall in the city.

As per the complaints lodged by Khemani at Saheed Nagar police station here, Tripathy asked the shop owner at BMC Bhawani Mall to make two separate bills and courier the products to an address at Jajpur. Though the parcel reached its destination, Khemani’s efforts to contact the accused for payment went vain.

Meanwhile, police seized huge electronics gadgets such as six laptops i phones, CPU, printer machine worth around Rs six lakhs from the possession of accused.

Police also arrested other persons to whom the accused sold the gadgets at a much lower price.
