Man lives in toilet for 3 months after house damaged due to rain Rourkela: In an appalling incident, a man in Odisha lived in his toilet for the last three months after failing to get assistance from administration to repair his dilapidated house which was damaged due to rain on the month of July.

According to reports, one Chotu Routia of Jalda village in Sundergarh district turned a Swachh Bharat toilet as his house got damaged due to rain three months ago.

Routia alleged that some officials visited his house after he had repeatedly requested them for help. The officials also assured him to provide a house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). However, as no action was taken, he again ran pillar to post to inform his difficulties and then finding no ray of hope from any quarter, finally he shifted to the newly constructed toilet and has been living there.

“After my house got damaged due to rain in July, I requested the local administration time and again to provide me some support to repair the house or else to give me a new house, following which the Tehsildar visited my house and assured to help. However, as no development took place, I gave an application to the higher officials. But, all my request turned to deaf ears.  Finding no other means, I shelter myself in the toilet,” said Routia, who works in a ration shop.

Meanwhile, Lathikata BDO, Purnachandra Bhoi said that his petition will be sent to the district collector for necessary action after conducting a detail inquiry.
