Jagatsinghpur: One person was killed while his wife and daughter were critically injured after a bike they were travelling on collided head on with a pick-up van at Balipatna Square on Cuttack-Paradip road in the district today.
The deceased has been identified as Manoranjan Bag from Katara area.
The mishap took place early in the morning while the family was on its way to Paradip from Cuttack riding a bike. Near Balipatna Square driver of a speeding vegetable laden pick-up van (OD 17 L 0652) coming from Paradip lost control over the wheels and ran over the family. All three members of the family sustained critical injury in the accident.
The injured were shifted to Manijanga Community Health Centre (CHC) following the accident where Manoranjan succumbed. The wife and daughter of the deceased were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and their condition continues to be critical.
Manijanga Police have reached the spot and launched a search to nab the driver of the van who managed to escape from the spot after the mishap.
