Man held for raping Dalit girl on pretext of marriage

Balangir: A middle-aged man has been arrested by Kantabanji Police on charges of sexually exploiting a Dalit girl on the false pretext of marriage here on Tuesday.

The accused identified as Pitabas Rout of Sargul village under Kantabanji police limits has been booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code.

Informing on the incident, the SDPO of Kantabanji Police Station, Prafulla Mishra said, “The accused managed to grow intimacy with the victim girl, a resident of Bahabal village under Turekela police limits last year during her stay at a brick kiln in Bengaluru in Karnataka. Pitabas worked in the same brick kiln where the victim girl’s family worked.”

“As per the complaint filed by the victim with police the accused who fathers four children, allegedly kept his marital status secret from her and took her to Punjipathra village in Chhattisgarh State on April 10 this year on the pretext of marriage. The accused forcibly established sexual relationship with the victim at a rented house there and later dumped her after refusing to marry,” he added.

Police have conducted medical examinations of both the victim and the accused.

The accused would be forwarded to court today.
