Man held for killing wife, burying body in the backyard

Sundergarh: Tension prevailed in Tikilipada village under Badagaon police limits in Sundergarh district today after police exhumed the dead body of a woman after three days of her murder and arrested her husband in connection with the case.

The deceased has been identified as Sarmila Tappo.

The murder which had taken place on last Saturday came to light this morning after some neighbours of Sarmila came across a foul smell which was coming out of a pit located on the backyard of her home and called up police. Police recovered her decomposed body after reaching the spot and carrying out an excavation, later.

After police took Sarmila’s husband Kapil into custody for questioning in the case, he confessed to the murder.

Police said, a verbal duel erupted between Sarmila and her husband in the night last Saturday after the latter returned home in an inebriated condition. In a fit of rage the accused took out a wooden plank and attacked the victim mercilessly, killing her on the spot.

Later, in a state of panic the accused had dug a pit in the backyard of his house and buried the body there.

While police have sent the body for autopsy, they have court forwarded the accused also.
