Kamakhyanagar: By cracking almost a month old rape attempt and murder case which took place in Dangapala Ambataila village under Kankadahad police limits in Dhenkanal district, Kamakhyanagar Police arrested the accused from his village yesterday.
The arrestee has been identified as Bipra Mohanty, a resident of Kanpura village of the same district.
As per the allegation against Mohanty, he intercepted the victim woman, a resident of Sudhakartaila village on March 3, the day of the incident while she was en-route to Karagola village. Later, promising the victim to drop at her destination, the accused gave her a lift on his bicycle and took to an isolated place to attempt rape.
As the victim successfully foiled the Mohanty’s bid to outrage her modesty, the latter strangulated her to death on the spot.
Family members of the deceased had lodged a case in connection with the case later.
The accused has been forwarded to court after arrest.
