Balangir: An elderly man was brutally hacked to death by his nephew over a family discord in Dandara village under Bangomunda Police Station area in the district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Padhi, Godman of Punjipathar Temple located in Dandara village.
The victim identified as Ashwini Padhi was hacked last night, soon after returning from temple. The accused chased Ramesh near his home toting an axe and brutally hacked him after he fell down near a well in neighbouring Harijanpada area. The victim died on the spot in the attack.
Bangomunda Police reached the spot and arrested the accused later in the night.
“The accused approached my house last evening and knocked the gate. After I inquired about the purpose of his coming, he started abusing my family verbally and threatened to kill, all over a long standing land dispute. However, he left after I refused to open the gate and again returned at around 7 PM when my husband reached home. While he was parking the bike, the accused chased him and hacked him to death,” said wife of the deceased.
