Anandpur: A man was drowned to death after falling into a pit in Barigan village under Ghasipura tehsil in Keonjhar district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Kamal Lochan Sahu of Nuasahi area of the same village.
The victim had taken his cattle to graze to a pasture at the banks of Kushei river along with his son Biswa Mohan in the morning when the mishap took place. He slipped into a water-filled pit caused by illegal sand lifting near the pasture due to negligence and was swept away into the river.
After Biswa Mohan called up Ghasipura fire brigade office for assistance the personnel reached the spot and fished out the body of the deceased.
While the body of the deceased has been sent for autopsy by the local police, the residents in the area have demanded stringent action against the illegal sand miners responsible for the mishap.
