Phulbani: The blistering heatwave condition in Odisha has started taking a toll on the denizens in the western Odisha with an elderly man’s death at Baliguda Aahar centre in kandhamal district yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Tanda Mallick of Simelkia village under Budaguda panchayat of the district.
The victim who appears to be in his seventies had gone to Baliguda in the noon yesterday and was returning home when the mishap took place. After feeling sick he chose to take rest at Baliguda Aahar centre veranda and collapsed a few minutes later.
While customers in the queue at the Aahar centre called up ambulance immediately after the incident, it didn’t turn up on time.
Later, police rushed to the spot in the afternoon and sent the body for autopsy.
Locals have demanded compensation for the next of kin of the deceased.
