Berhampur: Police detained a man after he branded his four-year-old adopted daughter with a hot spoon in Sriram Nagar area under Bada Bazaar police limits here on Friday. The toddler sustained critical burn injury in the incident.
The accused father identified as Runa Gouda lost his cool on the victim namely Sanjana Majhi in the morning after she allegedly disobeyed his orders and turned stubborn. In a bid to tame the toddler, the accused opted for corporal punishment and branded her at face, hands and thighs with a hot spoon injuring her grievously.
Hearing the screaming of the child some neighbours reached the spot and saved her. They later rushed the child to MKCB Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment and detained the accused.
Bada Bazar police reached the spot getting intimation on the incident and took the accused into its custody.
Police said, the real parents of the victim minor girl one Dasarathi and Ranu Majhi of the same area had handed over Sanjana to Runa and his wife a few years ago. They did so after facing financial issue in raising the child. Since then, she lived as a daughter of the accused.
The matter is under investigation and the police are trying to find out the real cause behind the inhuman treatment of the girl.
