Man critically injured in bear attack in Angul

Angul: In yet another case of human-animal conflict in the State, a man sustained grievous injuries after being attacked by a wild bear in Kathapala village under Chhendipada forest area in Angul district on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Jadav Behera (51) of the same locality.

Jadav who had been to attend nature’s call at a field near his house early this morning was getting freshen up in a nullah when the predator attack took place. An India sloth bear which had sneaked into the village last night pounced on him and mauled badly.

Jadav sustained grievous thigh and knee injury in the animal attack.

The bear fled into the forest after some villagers reached out to help the victim after hearing his scream.

Jadav was taken to Chhendipada Community Health Centre (CHC) in a 108 ambulance by his family members.

While forest officials have visited the village post the incident locals have claimed that the past one month has seen as many as 3 bear attack cases which are alarming.
