Man Cheats 33 Hajj Pilgrims Of Rs 28 Lakh In Odisha

Sambalpur: A man allegedly cheated Rs 28 lakh from as many as 33 pilgrims in the name of Hajj Yatra in the town. The Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the most holy city for Muslims.

The victims of the fraud today lodged a formal police complaint in this connection.

The victim alleged that the man identified as Abdul Rahim collected advance from them few months ago promising them to make necessary arrangements for the pilgrimage. “He has assured us that tickets will be booked through a travel agent. We again approached him but he denied of facilitating the pilgrimage,” alleged a victim.

The victims also alleged that Rahim has also collected money from others in Jharsuguda and Rourkela in similar fashion. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
