Man burns daughter-in-law to death over property dispute in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: In a shocking incident, a man charred his daughter-in-law to death over land dispute in Bhalupatra village under Laikera police limits in the district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Rukmini Rohidas of Sashan village.

Rukmini had married to Sukhiram Roahidas, son of one Banamali Rohidas of the village a few months back and was living at her in-law’s house after her husband’s death four months back. However, as Sukhiram happened to be the son of the first wife of Banamali, a land dispute had occurred between Rukmini and her father-in-law over heiring of property at a later stage causing regular verbal duels between them.

Last night, a heated argument took place between Rukmini and her father-in-law over the same issue and in a fit of rage the latter doused her with kerosene and set ablaze.

The victim was shifted to Burla Medical in critical condition and died under treatment there.

Police recorded the ‘dying declaration’ of the victim after reaching the spot.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased has filed a case against her in-laws in the case in which police have started investigation.
