Jharsuguda: A middle-aged man was thrashed to death by two youths over past enmity in Hirma village under Badmal police limits in the district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Bijay Bhoi (40) of Harekrushnapur village.
The attack took place late in the night, a few minutes after Bijay left his home in some work. The accused duo identified as Ajay Munda and Kumar Munda intercepted him on his way near Mundapada in Hirma village and thrashed with a bludgeon. After the victim sustained critical injury on his head in the attack and fell unconscious, the attackers dragged him to a pond and killed by drowning in the water.
Family members found the dead body of the victim floating in the pond this morning and intimated Badmal Police, which reached the spot and conducted an investigation with the help of dog squad and scientific team.
Police detained the accused duo for questioning of late.
Police said, the deceased had been jailed in a murder case earlier and was out on bail when the attack took place.
